WORKING WITH LIGHT

This blog is devoted to my photographic work. I aim to use it as a tool to develop my ideas and get feedback and thoughts from anyone who wants to leave one.

I'm currently working on a project that involves others participating; I'm sending out disposable cameras to people across the world for them to visually describe the country, city or town they call home. I want to know the realities and familiarities of these places from the perspective of the people who live there and the relationship we form as people with the world around us. If you want me to send you a camera, send me a message.

If you’ve ever wondered how an art gallery would display the world’s largest photo taken by the world’s largest camera, check out the above artist render of an exhibition that’s just opened at UC Riverside.
The 32x111 foot photo will be wrapped around a two story atrium at the Culver Center of the Arts..

So now that uni is finished

Its time to pick up the pace on this project again, going to send some more off within the next two days…as soon as it stops raining enough for me to go outside

Border Film Project

A guy in 3rd year told me to check this project out when we were in the darkroom. Nothing like a bit of darkroom banter :)
I quite like the fact that the purpose of this project is pretty well defined. It’s about the Mexican border, with disposable cameras given to the people trying to cross illegally, whilst cameras also given to the Minutemen that patrol the border. One story with two very different sides to it.

So this Wednesday is when I officially hand my project into Uni

I know this project is far from being concluded, and for that reason marks wise, I don’t see myself doing very well. But nevermind, grades aren’t the important thing anyway, as long as I’m enjoying the project, and the people taking part in it are, that’s all I care truly about!

birdgirlnow-deactivated20110701 asked: Do you only want photographs from cameras that you send out? Or are you also interested in receiving photos from disposable cameras taken AND developed by the photographer?

Hmmm I’m not sure actually, they would have to be taken with the instructions in mind for sure. I think I would still want to develop them

ilikeitsimple asked: Hey, I found out about your project via Flickr and would love to get involved :)
I'm a big fan of disposables anyway, but here my flickr if you like http://www.flickr.com/photos/likeitsimple/
from east London, let me know if I can get involved with the project?

My most recent camera was sent back to me (very quickly I may add!) from a Marian Jones in Anglesey, Wales. Again, another lovely addition to the project, so thankful to all the people who are not only helping me by taking part but take such beautiful photographs with the mighty disposable camera! I think this particular photograph is stunning - tried to print it in the darkroom but I think it’s one of those negs that going to requite a lot of TLC in printing so saving it for another day when I have more time and am up for a challenge!
